Special Transport and Accommodation
Arrangements for SuperDARN
delegates and their partners.
Airfares - in Australia
The preferred carrier for the SuperDARN 2000 workshop is Ansett Australia
(http://www.ansett.com.au/home_f.htm).
Special conference fares have been negotiated for workshop delegates and their partners.
These can be obtained by contacting 131300 and quoting file number: MC04127.
Airfares - International
Ansett Australia and its partner airlines in the Star Alliance are in the process of organising
special international fares for conferences. With booking arrangements made through the partner
airline in the delegate's country of origin. We had been hoping that the arrangement would be
in place for the SuperDARN 2000 workshop, however, since it has not been done before there are
a number of fine details to be worked out. If something happens before Easter we will post it
here.
Hotels - in Melbourne
If you wish to stay in Melbourne for a few days pre or post the workshop, La Trobe University
has a special corporate arrangement with Rydges Hotels. Through this arrangement we have been
able to negotiate special accommodation packages for SuperDARN 2000 delegates and their families.
We recommend Rydges Carlton for good quality and good value.
Rydges Carlton offers value for money four star accommodation for both business and leisure
travellers. It is situated just to the north of Melbourne's CBD. The city centre is just a short
walk or tram ride away. A number of Melbourne's prime attractions are located close by, including
cosmopolitan Lygon Street with over 60 restaurants and a variety of designer label fashion shops.

An alternative is Rydges Melbourne (four and a half star) in the city centre -although more
expensive: http:// www.rydges.com.
To take advantage of the special arrangements for either Rydges Hotel please contact
Ms Amber Dance on +61 3 93477811 or email
Amber_Dance@rydges.com.
Alternatively, as with any major city, Melbourne has numerous other accommodation options in and
around the city, many are listed on the internet (I suggest you search for "Hotels Melbourne Australia").
However, if you intend taking the SuperDARN bus to/from Beechworth we suggest that you stay at one of:
Rydges Carlton: (see details above);
Rydges Melbourne: (see details above);
The Centra on Yarra:
http://www.centra.com.au/framesets/main.asp; or
The Grand Hyatt Melbourne
http://www.hyatt.com/australia/melbourne/hotels/hotel_melbo.html.
Finally, if you intend visiting Melbourne, the Melbourne citysearch web site is certainly worth a look:
http://melbourne.citysearch.com.au/.
Hotels - Melbourne Airport
The Centra Melbourne Airport Hotel located right at the airport.
http://www.centra.com.au/framesets/main.asp. However,there isn't much
to do around the airport, so unless your flight arrives late at night we recommend that you stay in a hotel
in or near the city where there are an endless number of attractions.

Subject to sufficient demand we will be arranging coach transport from Melbourne to Beechworth on Monday, May 22

Australian Rules Football
Melbourne is the home of Australian Rules Football, that spectacular game you may have seen on television. If you
are staying in Melbourne over a weekend check what games are being played by clicking on "fixtures" at
http://www.afl.com.au/home/default.htm.
You can get a ticket over the web at http://www.ticketmaster.com.au/.
Peter Dyson is a keen supporter of the Essendon team (http://www.essendonfc.com.au/)
and plans to attend their game at the famous Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday night 26th May. The game starts at 7:40 PM so it will be a bit
of a rush to make it after SuperDARN 2000 ends, but if you DEFINITELY want to attend this particular game with Peter,
email him at p.dyson@latrobe.edu.au by 10 May. Cost approximately AUD$30,
depending on location of seats.
