Melt down of 350V DC-DC Convertor

This very simple board takes +15V in, and generates +350V to bias the switching diodes in the high power RF switch. The photo above shows one which decided to meltdown for no apparent reason. This is one very smelly power supply...
The photos below show the new versions of the high voltage DC - DC convertors designed at La Trobe University. They are far more reliable than Version 1 that were very unreliable. The DC-DC convertors below particularly the Version 2 design are now used in many SuperDARN radars around the world. Version 3 is a 400V DC-DC convertor is used in our Unwin Radar located in New Zealand. The Unwin radar is a Stereo version generating two beams simulateonusly, so it draws a larger amount of current and hence Version 3 was designed to cope with its demands.
